Sometimes it can be hard to tell if someone likes you. They might be shy or have a good reason for deliberately hiding their feelings. Don’t worry – if you know what to look for you can always spot the signs. Here are 19 ways to tell if someone likes you.

1. They find any excuse to touch you

Touch is a huge sign of affection and can be a subconscious way to express their feelings towards you without having to say anything. You can be pretty sure how they feel if you notice them frequently touching your hand, arm, or back. As they get more comfortable with how you feel about them, they might even get more daring and start stroking your hair or playfully pinching your arm.

2. There’s lots of eye contact happening

Eye contact is one of the most powerful ways to convey how we feel. Even if we don’t say anything, the eyes can speak volumes about how much someone likes us. If someone stares at you for longer than usual or more frequently throughout the conversation, then there’s definitely something there!

In some cases, this sign might be hard to spot since people often make sure not to look at those who intimidate them or are nervous around them. But typically, when someone is attracted to another person, they’ll keep looking deep into their eyes without feeling shy or awkward.

3. They mirror your body language

Mirroring is a subconscious way that people use to show how comfortable they are around you. If someone likes you, they’ll likely copy (or mirror) the mannerisms and movements you make when in conversation with them.

For example, if you are leaning in to speak more closely to them, they might copy your movement and lean forward too. They might even copy your hand movements if you start pointing your fingers or moving your hands around as you talk. Or perhaps they’ll start using the same slang words or adjust the pitch of their words to match yours.

4. They smile and laugh a lot around you

When someone likes you, they’re likely to smile and laugh a lot at all of your jokes. One study showed that the more times a woman laughs at a man’s jokes, the more likely she is to be attracted to him!

Laughing is a way to give you a compliment and show how much they’re enjoying your company. Of course, if they didn’t like the way you make them feel they wouldn’t be laughing around you!

5. They try to get close to you

Do they keep moving closer and closer towards you even when it’s not necessary or socially acceptable? If so, then they’re showing how much they like you.

They might also adjust their posture so that their knees face yours when sitting next to each other. Or maybe after hugging goodbye, they lean forward for just a second longer than usual before letting go.

Both of these subtle signs say the same thing: ‘I really enjoy being around you. So if someone seems eager to touch your body whenever possible, there’s probably something more behind it!

6. They remember everything you tell them

If someone really likes you, they often develop an incredible memory for all the little random details you tell them. Maybe they ask how your weekend went, and you respond by saying how you had an upset stomach.

The next time they see you, their first question will be, “How’s your stomach?” It shows how much they care about what makes you happy and how deeply interested they are in all of those little things that make you, you.

If someone is genuinely interested in knowing how your mind works, they’ll remember all of the little things. In fact, it might seem like they can read your mind since they always say or do what seems right at that moment!

It’s not a trick – it just shows how much they like you and how engaged and interested they are in everything you say.

7. Are you soulmates?

Have you considered whether you’re soulmates? A soulmate is a person with who you feel incredibly close to and connected. It doesn’t have to be a romantic relationship and can refer to a best friend or family member.

People often describe the feeling of meeting their soulmate as how you feel when you find ‘the one. It’s hard to describe in words, but you know it when you feel it.

Not everyone believes in soulmates, but if you do, then think about what kind of connection you feel with them. Does it feel like they’re in sync with how you think, feel, and believe? Sometimes this might just happen naturally, but other times it’s a sign of a soulmate or twin flame connection between the two of you!

8. You make them nervous

If someone seems really nervous around you and talks a lot, it’s not because they’re trying to annoy you. It’s because they like you and they can’t think straight when they’re around you!

When people are nervous, they often don’t know how to act or what to say, so they just blab on without thinking too much about it. They also tend to laugh a lot which can come across as being awkward or even annoying since you probably don’t know why it’s happening!

9. They ask your friends about you

If someone is asking your friends a lot of questions about you, it’s a sign that they like you. They might be too shy to ask you directly how you feel, so instead, they try and see if your friends can give them any clues.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to brief your friends on what to say about you. If you don’t like them back, your friends might be able to let them down gently and avoid any future embarrassment.

10. They try and get you alone

If someone is always trying to find out your dinner plans or if you’re free on the weekend, it means that they want some alone time with you.

Getting alone time with you is the perfect way for them to get to know you better and build a more personal connection. Even if you see the person all day at work or school, there’s something great about having that extra time to talk and connect without anyone else around!

11. They lean in when they talk to you

When someone is attracted to you, they often lean in closer or turn towards you when they’re talking to you. It’s an unconscious movement that happens when someone is really engaged with the conversation, how you’re feeling, and how your mind works!

12. Their friends disappear when you’re together

Do all their friends mysteriously vanish when you’re together? It’s not because they don’t like you. It’s because the person crushing on you has instructed them to disappear so the two of you can get some alone time.

This might seem a bit awkward (and very obvious), but it works! When you’re finally alone, the other person can feel more comfortable making a move and start flirting with you.

13. They’re very interested in your dating life

If they seem very interested in your dating life or how your current relationship is going, it’s because they like you. They’re trying to assess how serious your relationship is so they can work out how long it’ll take before you’re single again!

Or else they’re waiting for the day you tell them that you’re unhappy so they can swoop in and steal you away from your current relationship. Even better, you’ll suddenly be single, and they can make a move without feeling guilty.

14. They’re not afraid to be vulnerable with you

Showing vulnerability is a huge sign that they feel comfortable with you and trust you to respect and protect their feelings. They’re open to sharing their deepest feelings and insecurities with you, and they trust you not to judge them or laugh at them.

Showing vulnerability is tough for some people, but it comes much more easily once you’ve established a bond of trust. If you feel the same way, now is the perfect time to show them how you feel!

15. Their body language is open

You can tell if someone likes you by checking to see if they have open body language when they’re around you.

Open body language means that their limbs are open rather than crossed, and they lean towards you and face you. If someone has closed off or negative body language, they don’t feel very comfortable or happy in the situation.

Even though people can fake positive body language for short periods, it takes quite a lot of practice and effort and usually isn’t sustainable long term.

16. They ask you deep and personal questions

You can tell that someone likes you when they ask you lots of deep and personal questions. They want to know everything they can about how you feel, what makes you tick, and how your mind works.

They want to know how close to the bone they can get without scaring you off!

They’re also trying to find out if they can be more vulnerable with you and trust you with more of their feelings.

Only share what you feel comfortable with and take things as slowly as you like. Some people are more pushy when it comes to asking personal questions, so stand your ground if they cross a line!

17. They stalk you on social media

Are they all over your social media accounts? If they’re constantly liking your photos, tagging you, and commenting on how great you look, it’s because they’re obviously crushing on you!

If they’re shy, it’s also a way for them to feel close to you without having to have an actual conversation with you.

As I’ve already discussed, some people get super nervous when they like someone. Commenting on social posts is a way for them to take their time and think about what they want to say.

They might also be using social media to check up on who you’ve been hanging out with to get a read on your relationship status.

18. They give you lots of compliments

Compliments are one of the best ways to let someone know how much you like them. It’s also a very subtle way for shy people to show their feelings without having an actual conversation with you.

They might even compliment things that aren’t physical features. This way, they can avoid feeling embarrassed about being obvious but still show how wonderful they think you are.

The best types of compliments are ones that aren’t obvious. Suppose they notice something subtle you changed about yourself. In that case, it shows how closely they’re watching you and paying attention to the little details.

19. Their feet point towards yours

It might seem weird, but you can tell if someone likes you by looking at whether their feet are pointed towards you. People subconsciously point their feet toward something they’re interested in – usually people, but also anything that interests them.

The best way to spot this sign is when you’re in a group situation. If someone likes you more than anyone else in the group, they’ll have their feet pointed towards yours.

20. Their pupils dilate

Research has shown that people’s pupil size increases when they’re attracted to someone. This (obviously) happens subconsciously, and it can be a very sneaky way to figure out if someone is attracted to you.

However, it’s a very subtle sign, so relying on this one is not a good idea. It only works if you look directly into their eyes at close range, and the lighting needs to be dim.

21. They groom themselves around you

Do they keep checking how their hair looks when you’re around? If someone has a crush on you, they want to look as attractive as possible to you. They’ll notice how close you are and will make a subtle effort to preen themselves for your attention.

For guys, examples of preening include:

  • Running their fingers through their hair.
  • Straightening their clothes.
  • Flicking dust off their shoulders.

For girls, it could be things like:

  • Reapplying lip gloss
  • Playing with their hair
  • Touching up their eyeliner
  • Playing with jewelry
