In a perfect world, society wouldn’t care about the shape of your body or how much you weigh. But the reality is, chubby girls still face a lot of stereotypes and unfair judgments.

If you happen to like slim women, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. But there’s no doubt that dating a plus-size woman takes more character than dating someone who conforms to society’s standards of beauty.

As a man, you’re also going to have to deal with stereotypes and judgments from friends and strangers. People will automatically assume that you’re insecure or you have a fetish for chubby girls.

It goes without saying that chubby girls have just as much to offer a relationship as any other woman. They’re just as intelligent, caring, and giving as any other girl you could be dating.

In fact, they might even have more to offer because our thin-obsessed society has taught them how to deal with rejection and be strong and independent.

1. Don’t keep her a secret because you’re embarrassed

The worst thing you can do is keep your chubby girlfriend a secret because you think it’s embarrassing.

We live in an age where people are more accepting of different body types than ever before, so don’t let society dictate who you date.

If anything, being with someone who doesn’t fit the stereotype will help turn some heads and change some minds about what’s considered beautiful.

Dating outside of the norm takes confidence which women find attractive. She’ll appreciate that kind of boldness from her man! So take her hand in yours proudly when you’re out together and introduce her to friends without hesitation.   

2. Don’t fetishize her body

The truth is that a lot of men do have a fetish for chubby girls. It’s just another preference, like blondes or brunettes.

But the difference is that men who fetishize fat women are often disrespectful and self-centered in their relationships. They get turned on by all the curves and completely ignore the person she is inside.

There’s nothing wrong with having preferences when it comes to physical appearance. Just make sure those preferences don’t become the single focus of your relationship.

If you love her body, go ahead and say so! But don’t let it overshadow the fact that she’s a wonderful woman with a great personality who would make any man happy in a long-term relationship.   

3. She’s more likely to have self-confidence issues

A chubby girl is more likely to have self-confidence issues than a woman who fits society’s beauty standards.

She’s probably had years of people making assumptions about who she is and what she’s like because of how she looks.

When you start dating a plus-size girl, she might be extra sensitive about her body and worry that she can never measure up to your standards.

If that happens to be the case, she may even start pushing you away. She’ll tell herself that it would just be easier for both of you if the relationship didn’t work out.

5. She will get fat shamed in public

When you have a chubby girlfriend, you have to accept that she will get fat-shamed in public.

Some people are just rude and inconsiderate. They’ll make comments about her weight or appearance behind her back while she’s standing right there in front of them!

It can be hard to see your girlfriend go through that kind of treatment, especially when you know how amazing she is.

Even if it doesn’t seem to bother her, that kind of cruel treatment will really hurt, and it can have a massive impact on her confidence and self-esteem.

It’s very tempting to make a scene or go after the person who’s being mean. But it probably won’t help your girlfriend and might even make her feel more embarrassed.

On the other hand, if she chooses to give them a piece of her mind, then definitely step in and make sure you have her back.

6. Your friends and strangers will judge you

Not only will your chubby girlfriend be judged, but you will too.

People just won’t understand why you’re attracted to her, and they’ll blame it on your low standards or even call you a chubby chaser!

You might also get judged for dating outside of your “league” by people in your life who think appearance is all that matters when it comes to love.

The reality is they don’t know anything about your relationship, so they shouldn’t be making assumptions about how it works or what your girlfriend means to you.

They might even secretly be jealous because they can see how happy you are.

The best revenge is to live your life happily ever after with the girl of your dreams, no matter what anyone else thinks!

7. Don’t tell her she’s not fat

One of the worst things you can do is tell your chubby girlfriend that she’s not fat or that she’s “just big-boned.”

She’s well aware of her size and trying to deny it makes you look like you’re ashamed of her or don’t see her for who she truly is.

This will only make her feel worse about herself and more self-conscious around you, which is the last thing she wants.

It’s much better to be honest about her size and tell her you think she’s beautiful, no matter what size she is.

8. She won’t feel like the world owes her anything (except respect) 

The reality is that slim, attractive people get a lot of advantages in life – in their work life and their love life.

A chubby girl knows that she probably won’t get preferential treatment at work or more opportunities because of her looks. This means she’s less likely to expect it in other areas too.

She knows she has to make an effort and work hard for what she wants. This makes her a much better partner to have in your life.

She’ll be more likely to support you and cheer you on when it comes to reaching for the stars or going after your dreams, no matter how tough things get!

She’ll also appreciate everything in her life much more than someone who has grown up with the idea that “the world owes me a favor” because of their appearance.

9. Don’t act weird about food or exercise 

Another thing you don’t want to do is act weird about food or exercise.

If you show her that it bothers you when she eats, you’ll make her feel ashamed of her body, and she’ll start to resent you.

She knows herself well enough to know what her weight means regarding health risks, so make sure your discussions stay supportive and focused on health rather than looks.

You also don’t want her to feel like she has to change her lifestyle just because you’re with her. Especially if that means cutting out the food she loves or going on a strict diet!

As for exercise, chubby girls are often very active anyway, so just encourage her to stay healthy and have fun. You may even find that she likes some sports or activities you’ve never tried before!

10. Support her, but don’t try to change her

It’s important to be supportive, but don’t try and force her to change her eating habits or take up exercise when it’s clear she doesn’t want to.

If she wants help with losing weight, then support her 100%. But if she’s happy with her lifestyle, then it’s not your job to push her outside her comfort zone. She knows what she needs to do to stay healthy.

She probably has to deal with body shaming and weight stigma daily, so the last thing she needs is for you to judge or criticize her too!

11. Treat her like you would any other girl

At the end of the day, your girlfriend is a beautiful person and deserves to be treated the same way as any other girl.

She has the same hopes, dreams, fears, and worries as any other girl in her shoes – she just happens to be bigger than average on the outside.

Be kind and respectful, and you’ll be able to build a strong and lasting relationship with her.

Don’t make it weird, don’t obsess over her weight, and show her that you see beyond the exterior. She’s not chubby – she’s perfect!
